The current Team SRS configuration has been racing together for the last 3 years. With important victories at the regional, national and North American levels, we are now ready to test ourselves on the international scene at this year's AR world championships. We are performance oriented, known to race hard, to excel in the harshest conditions and to never quit. All that because we love being together and enjoy challenging each other to push our limits......all the while without taking ourselves too seriously. It IS just a race, right?

Alain Beaudry (Canada)

alain_bio1

Alain Beaudry is the veteran racer on the team (a polite way to say he is the oldest). He enjoys each moment and races as if there were no tomorrows, since there effectively may be not be tomorrows; he has been talking about retiring from racing since 2002 but has been signing one year extension contracts since then and he now has to deal with Benoît Tremblay trying to take his place on the team. Race after race, Alain brings an essential contribution to the team with his unequalled ability to pop open the finish-line champagne bottle.  Suffering from a very serious case of "Gear Acquisition Disease”, Alain is always welcomed with smiles/$$ in the various Ottawa sports and outdoors equipment shops. Alain is also actively involved in the community as the founder and president of the International Gear Acquisition Disease foundation for Adventure Racers (all donations accepted – thanks).

Benoit Letourneau (Canada)

First and foremost, our glorious captain Benoît Létourneau. A tough guy, a dirty face. A beast. Former member of the Canadian cross-country ski and mountain bike teams. A real competitor. With an incomparable sense of humor, admittedly a bit misunderstood by the rest of the racers. Some people have seen him smile; yet we have no proof of it. His sense of diplomacy is still under development, he’s working on it, slowly. And what an incredible navigator he is. Quick, precise, incisive. Christophe Colombus, Magellan and James Cook look like beginners beside him!!

Benoit Tremblay (Canada)

When Benoît timidly joined the team 2 years ago, he was expressing with humility his ardent desire to modestly contribute to the success of the team, admitting his great chance to be learning the Simon River Sports adventure racing style school in company of long time veterans like Benoît and I (Alain). Since his first paddle strokes and his first swamp crawling with our team, he has long pretended that I was a model for him and that his first objective was to become just like me. However, along the various races and victories and his newly acquired self-confidence, it appeared totally obvious that not only he wanted to be like me, he wanted to take my spot on the team. It started insidiously and almost unnoticed; it has now been confirmed since he started cutting his hair like mine and dressing like me and stealing underwear from my gear bin. In many ways, I can say Benoît is a racer who pushes me to surpass myself. Until he actually steals my place on the team, I greatly enjoy racing with Benoît. We have to recognize his great abilities and personal qualities, notably his integrity and his great generosity. We soon realized how dedicated he was to the team and how much he was ready to give his body and soul to help his teammates  since  his now famous “Hey Liza, you need a screw?” in the middle of the 2004 Beast of the East. As teammates of Benoît, we are really sorry for all other racers who don’t have the chance to race with him, anyway, no one would understand a word of what he says in English…

Liza Pye (Canada)

Liza has been racing with Simon River Sports for a few seasons now. She is a strong asset to SRS as she quickly made a smooth transition to both team mom and official translator. It is also in her job description to carry the mandatory lighter and to laugh at Benoit T's jokes even though she may not understand most of them. Her favorite colour is blue.
